Modern Eye is proud to be led by its esteemed founder, Dr. Amar Bhat, a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist. Dr. Bhat’s journey in eye care is marked by exceptional academic achievements, pioneering contributions to ophthalmology, and a deep-rooted commitment to the community of Houston, his beloved hometown.

Education and Fellowship

Dr. Bhat’s illustrious academic journey began at The University of Texas at Austin, where his outstanding undergraduate accomplishments earned him a full-tuition scholarship to medical school. He pursued his medical degree at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, laying a strong foundation for his future in medicine.

Following his medical education, Dr. Bhat moved to Washington, DC and completed his internship at the Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center and an ophthalmology residency at The George Washington University. During residency, he served as chief resident and led a mission trip to help restore vision to underserved patients in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He then pursued a fellowship under world-renowned surgeons in corneal and refractive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Bhat is adept in a wide array of advanced ophthalmic procedures, including LASIK, PRK, ICL, laser-assisted cataract surgery. He can also provide the full range of corneal surgery, from extensive full- and partial-thickness corneal transplants to minor corneal procedures in the clinic. His commitment to providing personalized and cutting-edge treatments has significantly advanced the field of ophthalmology.

A prolific researcher and author, Dr. Bhat has contributed extensively to peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters in ophthalmology. Community Engagement and Personal Interests

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Bhat has had the honor of serving the patients of Houston in his work for Cross Eye Centers and Houston Methodist Hospital. His passion for teaching medical led him to join the Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor and he also supervises students at a charity clinic. Dr. Bhat’s love for his city extends beyond healthcare – he is also a diehard Houston sports fan. He is passionate about traveling, cooking, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his beautiful wife and amazing son. These personal interests and his deep connection to his community are integral to who he is both as a physician and as a person.

Dr. Bhat founded Modern Eye Clinic in 2024 with a vision to create a center of excellence in ophthalmology that mirrors his high standards for patient care, technological advancement, and community service. Under his leadership, the clinic will become a beacon of hope for patients seeking the most advanced and compassionate eye care in the Houston area and beyond.

Modern Eye is thrilled to offer patients the expertise of Dr. Jenell Jackson for any oculoplastic surgery needs. Dr. Jackson is the owner of Jackson Oculofacial and Cosmetic Surgery, which provides world-class service and care to enable patients in Houston, Texas to restore their pride and exude confidence in the skin they are in. Dr. Jackson is an Atlanta, Georgia native and board-certified ophthalmologist and oculofacial surgeon. She graduated Cum Laude from Morehouse School of Medicine and matched into her residency program of choice at the renowned Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. The diverse patient population and array of pathology she encountered during training allowed her to graduate residency with a high level of confidence and competency to manage the most threatening ocular diseases and traumas to the eye and surrounding structures.

Dr. Jackson prides herself in being a meticulous surgeon, taking time with each of her patients to ensure she is addressing their specific concerns and formulating a unique treatment plan individualized to each patient’s needs. She believes in maintaining candor in the patient-surgeon relationship and possesses a rare ability to make everyone she encounters feel heard and validated.

Dr. Jackson is highly skilled in a broad range of surgical procedures, encompassing both aesthetic enhancements and medically necessary interventions. Her expertise extends to cosmetic surgeries such as upper and lower eyelid lifts and brow lifts, aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the eyes and forehead. Additionally, Dr. Jackson specializes in addressing functional concerns, including the correction of droopy eyelids (ptosis), the repair of ectropion and entropion, and the resolution of tear duct problems. This comprehensive surgical proficiency ensures that patients receive tailored care that meets both their aesthetic desires and medical needs.

In her free time, she values spending time with her loved ones. She enjoys experiencing new cultures and food through travel, and also enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and fitness. She is an avid promoter of the importance of physical activity to maintain beauty and youthfulness from the inside out. Dr. John Stokes is a highly esteemed retina specialist at Modern Eye, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. He completed his medical education at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he developed a strong foundation in medical sciences and a passion for ophthalmology.

Following medical school, Dr. Stokes pursued his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Here, he honed his clinical skills and gained extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions. His commitment to excellence and patient care earned him recognition and respect among his peers.

To further specialize in retinal diseases and surgeries, Dr. Stokes completed a rigorous fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the esteemed Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During this time, he trained under some of the leading experts in the field and acquired advanced surgical techniques and knowledge, solidifying his expertise in managing complex retinal disorders.

Dr. Stokes is dedicated to providing personalized and compassionate care to his patients, utilizing the latest advancements in retinal treatments and technologies. He is committed to improving the vision and quality of life for those affected by retinal conditions.

In his spare time, Dr. Stokes enjoys spending quality time with his family, cherishing the moments shared with his loved ones. His dedication to his family and patients alike exemplifies his caring and compassionate nature.
