What is LASIK?

    • Myopia (nearsightedness)? Check.
    • Hyperopia (farsightedness)? Check.
    • Astigmatism? Check.

Not every eye is the same, and a thorough consultation with your surgeon will help you understand if LASIK is right for you.

Take charge of your vision with LASIK – a life-changing step towards clarity.

It’s 2025. Would you want to trust cheaper LASIK technology from 2010 for something as important as your vision?

Every eye is different and deserves its own personalized treatment plan. Utilizing the Alcon WaveLight® Topolyzer® Vario Diagnostic Device and the Heidelberg ANTERION®, our screening protocol will be more rigorous than most. We prioritize safety and honesty, which means we sometimes recommend alternative treatments if LASIK isn’t right for you.

Modern Eye’s Transparent Pricing

Reputable LASIK providers should offer transparent pricing that reflects the quality of care you deserve. At Modern Eye, the cost of LASIK is the cost of LASIK. Whether you need a minor adjustment or have significant vision correction needs—every patient should expect to pay $5,500 for both eyes (or $2,750 per eye). Full transparency—no hidden fees, no surprise charges—just expert care with upfront costs.

Concerned about the cost? We offer interest-free financing options through CareCredit to make LASIK more accessible.

Red Flags in Picking a LASIK provider?

Bait and Switch Pricing

“LASIK starting as low as 299 per eye!” Be cautious of clinics that advertise extremely low LASIK prices to get patients in the door, only to upsell necessary upgrades or add hidden fees later. Suspiciously discounted eye surgery often means cutting corners on technology, safety, and surgeon experience. Your vision is too important for shortcuts.

Old Technology in the Modern Age

A quick history lesson: when LASIK first got approved by the FDA in 1999, a blade called a microkeratome was used to make the flap. After the flap was created, a laser was used to reshape the cornea.

Since then, our technology has advanced. Modern surgeons utilize laser to create the flap and reshape the cornea.

Surprisingly, some surgeons still rely on outdated blade technology. Be sure to ask about the tools and techniques your surgeon uses.

Modern Eye is proud to utilize the most recent advancements in laser technology to provide the most precise results.

Is LASIK too expensive?

In reality, it's an investment.

Think about how much money you spend per year on glasses, contacts, and contact lenses.

The average user of glasses and contacts spends around 700 dollars per year on glasses, contacts, contact lens solution, and eye exams.

Within a decade, LASIK has already paid for itself for the majority of people.

Over a lifetime, continued use of glasses and contacts could cost tens of thousands of dollars—costs that LASIK can help eliminate.

Is LASIK safe?

Yes, it’s very safe! Complication rates are very low and usually treatable. Hundreds of thousands of people get LASIK every year and haven’t looked back. Wearing contact lenses every day actually poses more of a risk to your eyes than a single LASIK procedure!

Will I need glasses again?

Most patients enjoy clear vision for many years after LASIK. However, in the mid-to-late 40s, a natural age-related condition called presbyopia can make it harder to see up close, often requiring reading glasses. If you’re approaching this age, Dr. Bhat will discuss advanced options to help reduce your need for glasses and maintain your visual freedom as much as possible.

Does insurance cover LASIK?

No. However, your insurance plan may provide some discount or reimbursement. Financing is available to make LASIK available to as many people as possible! HSA and FSA funds can also be used to pay for LASIK.

How long is the recovery?

Most people experience significantly clearer vision by the next day! You’ll use eye drops for 1 week after the procedure and sleep with a shield to protect your eyes. We also recommend avoiding make-up for 1 week after the procedure.

Does LASIK "wear off?"

You may have heard of regression. However, with modern diagnostic imaging, better laser technology, and a greater understanding of “high risk” corneas, we typically do not see regression because we are more selective. If any patient appears to be high risk for regression or other issues like keratoconus, Dr. Bhat will recommend an alternative treatment.

Would Dr. Bhat do LASIK on a family member?

Yes! Dr. Bhat has already performed LASIK on his wife, as well as close friends and family members. Trusting his own expertise to care for his loved ones is the greatest testament to both the safety of LASIK and his surgical skill.

And yes, his wife still sees great!
